Summerland skaters excel in Kelowna

Members of the Summerland Skating Club had new personal bests and podium finishes at a competition in Kelowna last weekend.

The club had the opportunity to compete at the 2019 Super Series STARSkate Final Competition hosted by the Kelowna Skating Club.

Super Series is a difficult competition considering the huge group sizes, some with 36 and 45 competitors, and pressure of the competition being live streamed.

The Summerland skaters managed to keep their nerves under control and have a good time. Skaters ran clean programs, hit new personal bests, and podium finishes. They also had a surprise visit from their mascot, Pam the Summerland Sloth.

Yuzuki Onishi: Star 2 — Bronze

Brooke Mide: Star 3 — Bronze

Lacey Doerksen: Star 5 — 26th (15.83 PB)

Kaylee Fortunato: Star 6 — 24th (20.01), Star 7 Short — 16th (12.18)

Keelyn Mitchell: Star 6 — 16th (21.52 PB), Star 7 Short — 12th (14.76 PB)

Patricia Fortunato: Adult Gold Interpretive — second (34.51 PB), Adult Gold Freeskate — fourth (21.06 PB)

Sabrina Fortunato: Star 9 Short — 12th (17.36)

The skaters will perform at the Rock of Ages ice show on March 10.
