Sun player named special teams player of the week

Okanagan with home game Saturday looking to improve to 4-0

For the first time this season the 3-0 Okanagan Sun have received a weekly award following their 15-14 win over the Langley Rams.

The BCFC special teams player of the week is kick returner DJ Weber.

At just 5-foot-7 and 180 pounds the shifty Kelowna native had seven punt returns for 39 yards, four kick-off returns for 96 yards and a missed field goal return for 24 yards.

All in all he would tally 159 return yards giving the Sun offense very good field position.

The missed field goal return came in a critical play in the game.  With the score 15-14 in favour of the Sun, the Rams missed a 30-plus yard field goal attempt. Deep in his own end zone Weber had the presence of mind to run it out.

If Weber doesn’t return the miss the Rams and Sun would have been tied.

The 3-0 Sun will host the 2-1 Westshore (Victoria) Rebels on Saturday night at the Apple Bowl.  Kick-off is set for 7:00pm.
