Sun players among league stat leaders

Doege sacks leader, Yochim tops punt returns

The Okanagan Sun’s 8-2 regular season record was accompanied by some solid individual performances during the 2011 B.C. Football Conference campaign.

The junior circuit’s final statistics were released this week with a number of Sun players at or near the top of their respective categories.

Defensive back Robbie Yochim led the way in punt return yardage with 364 yards on 31 attempts.

Steven Doege put together an impressive season on the defensive line with a league-leading 11 sacks. He was second in overall defensive statistics with 113 total points, which included 28 tackles, 14 assists and two fumble recoveries.

In scoring, Steven McFadyen was second in the BCFC with 88 points on 14 field goals, 42 converts and four singles.

In rushing, Armand Bokitch ranked third in the conference with 586 yards on 83 carries. He  averaged 7.1 yards per carry and scored six touchdowns.

In passing, Jeremy Mraovic ranked third in overall efficiency with a rating of 106.8. He was second in completions (109), second in yards passing (2,057) and second in touchdown passes (18).

Danny Turek was third in the BCFC in receiving yardage (768), and had the fifth-best average  at 24.8 yards per catch.

Defensive back Brennan Van Nistelrooy tied for second in the conference in interceptions with five.

This Sunday, the Sun will host the Langley Rams in the BCFC semi-final. Kick off at the Apple Bowl is 2 p.m.
