The Westside Warriors are in Trail today looking to build on what was its best period of its first round playoff series with the Smoke Eaters.
The Warriors scored four times in the third period of Saturday night’s game against Trail, completing a comeback to win 4-2 and even its best of seven series with the Smoke Eaters at one game apiece.
“That was a really big win for us and a good third period,” said Warriors coach Darren Yopyk. “Trail is a really good team riding a hot streak and riding a hot goaltender.”
Grayson Downing scored three times and Max French had the other as the Warriors evened the series with a 4-2 win Saturday night. On Friday Trail won 6-3 to draw first blood.
The series now shifts to Trail for games three and four tonight (Monday) and Tuesday.
Yopyk says he thinks his team got a wake up call.
“Trail has been in the playoff mode for a few months,” he said. “It’s hard to turn the switch on and off and we had it in the middle for awhile because of our position (in the standings). I think if we stick with our game plan and match their intensity I like our chances.”
Game five will be back in West Kelowna on Friday night.
