West Kelowna drops third game in three tries against Penicton in BCHL play this season

The Penticton Vees continue to be an unsolvable puzzle the West Kelowna Warriors.

The Warriors are now 0-for-3 this season against their Interior Division rivals after falling 3-2 to the Vees Tuesday in BCHL action at Royal LePage Place.

Jordan Masters gave the Warriors a 2-0 lead with a pair of goals before the game was seven minutes old.

But the Vees responded with three straight markers, including two on the power, while the Warriors’ special teams woes continued as they came up empty on five power play chances.

“I’ve said before special teams come down to coaching but it’s certainly not because we haven’t put a lot of time and a lot of effort into it,” said Warriors’ coach Rylan Ferster.

“As a staff we have, so I don’t want to throw anybody under the bus. It’s unfortunate right now.”

Paul Stoykewych, Ben Dalpe and Brad McClure, with the winner at 2:28 of the third, scored for Penticton who outshot West Kelowna 35-24, including 16-2 in the second period.

The loss was the Warriors (14-10-1-2) sixth in nine games in November, dropping their record during the month to 2-6-1-0.

West Kelowna remains tied with Salmon Arm for fourth in the Interior Division with 31 points, three behind third-place Merritt and four in back of the second-place Vernon Vipers.

The Vees (16-6-1-3) lead the division by one over Vernon.

The Warriors return to action Saturday night when they host Langley, 7 p.m. at LePage.
