Warriors defenceman Ben Tegtmeyer commits to Brown U. in the NCAA: Club winning streak hits six

Ben Tegtmeyer is on his way to the Ivy League.

The Warriors defenceman committed to Brown University on Thursday, saying it’s been his “dream school for a few years.”

“I’ve had a lot of family members go there” the 19 year-old said, “and so it’s a school I’m familiar with.”

Tegtmeyer says he may steer towards law school, though he hasn’t made up his mind just yet.

Originally born in Minneapolis, Tegtmeyer has also lived in Portland, OR and Cincinnati, OH – though his journey to Providence is aimed more at the classrooms than the arenas.

“Academics first, and hockey second,” he said.

Tegtmeyer will head to Brown in the fall of 2014, after completing the current season with West Kelowna.

Make it six wins and counting for the BCHL’s West Kelowna Warriors.

Jordan Masters scored twice as the Warriors downed the hometown Smoke Eaters 5-3 Saturday night in Trail.

Liam Blackburn’s third period goal stood up as the winner, while veteran goaltender Andy  Desautels stopped 24 shots for his sixth win in a row.

The Warriors led 3-2 after two periods, then managed to hold off a frantic push by Trail in the third.

`They came hard,” said Desautels. “We just stood our ground, and made sure we got pucks out and pucks deep.“

The Saskatchewan native added he`s excited for the promise the Warriors are showing early in the season. “Everything`s going right right now,” Desautels said. “We`ve got a lot of skill, but our skill is working hard. We`re going to be tough to play against every night.“

Jason Cotton and David Pope also tallied for the Warriors, now 6-2-0 on the season.

This coming weekend, the Warriors are back on the road for a three-game coastal trip, with stops in Powell River, Nanaimo and Cowichan Valley.
