Wild split exhibition action

The Okanagan Wild picked up a split in B.C. Inter A Lacrosse League exhibition action.

The Okanagan Wild picked up a split in B.C. Inter A Lacrosse League exhibition action over the weekend.

The Wild defeated Richmond 14-11 then lost 15-8 to Coquitlam. Wild coach Dan Chetner said the players competed well and gained valuable game experience.

“We have a good base to work from, but have lots of work to do on individual and team skills,” said Chetner. “Our top-end talent is strong and our raw talent is good throughout the line-up.”

Chetner has an eager group, but said their weakness is experience. He also said the coaching staff needs to re-inforce the basics and then develop team strategies to the proper level.

“Some of our players have played their whole careers at the B level and it showed,” he said. “I think we have tremendous upside as we should be able to address those basics easily and quickly and show marked improvement as our players get accustomed to the speed and skill of the A game.”

The Wild open the season against Coquitlam and Ridge Meadows on April 22 and 23, teams that Chetner said were in the top three last season.
