Okanagan Women’s Mentoring and Angel Network Investments (OKGN WMAN) is helping women find their potential and reach their goals. The group announced its recent support of two women-led, Canadian businesses Rainstick and Apricotton just ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8.

This is the second fund of the group, having launched the first on International Women’s Day in 2021.

Sherri Faloon, a co-founder and general partner, said OKGN WMAN is focused on helping close the funding gap faced by women founders.

“Women-led teams achieve significantly higher financial performance yet women receive less than 2 per cent of start-up capital.”

Rainstick is a Kelowna-based business that takes the challenge of having a long, hot shower while trying to save on water and electricity. The business received an investment from OKGN WMAN as the first fund was coming to a close.

“We’re extremely thrilled to have the continued support from OKGN WMAN who are helping us realize our mission of building water technology that allows people to thrive using only 50 litres of water per person, per day. Sustainability is no longer a nice to have, but a need to have when it comes to new builds and remodelling projects, especially in certain areas of North America where water shortages are part of everyday life,” said Alisha McFetridge, cofounder and CEO of Rainstick.

Apricotton is a Canadian-based company that sells girls’ clothing and has designed a bra that grows with girls.
