Penticton will live up to its name of being Canada’s craft beer capital as it celebrates the fifth annual Penticton Beer Week Oct. 13 to 22 with fun and wacky local events.

All eight of Penticton’s breweries have come together to craft “Do Good,” a pilsner-style beverage that will be sold locally and across B.C. at select liquor stores. Proceeds from the sales of the beer will go toward the South Okanagan Similkameen branch of the SPCA.

The popular “Beer Run” hits the KVR Trail to kick off festivities on Saturday morning, Oct. 14. Before that Penticton’s newest brewery, Yellow Dog, will host an unveiling party on Thursday night to give people their first taste of “Do Good.”

“With it being our fifth year, it’s a milestone year,” said Kim Lawton, with Cannery Brewing, speaking on behalf of the Penticton Beer Blocks to city council. “We’re thrilled to work together to showcase Penticton’s exciting, dynamic and vibrant craft beer scene.”

The unveiling party at Yellow Dog, as well as the annual Penticton Beer Run, represent two of the three signature events the week has to offer.

The other will be the second annual Brew Haha at the Penticton Lakeside Resort with live music, beer and food on Saturday night, Oct. 21.

Cannery Brewing is also hosting two events, with the mini-mural auction taking place Oct. 18 and Cannery Brewer’s Showdown on Friday, Oct. 13, where staff have been split into separate teams and brewed eight unique beers for this event. Sample them all, cast a vote for your favourite and help them crown the champs.

There are a record-high 23 events scheduled to take place during the Penticton Beer Week Block Party.

While live music and comedy headline some of what’s featured during the week, organizers have also planned unique gatherings like a vinyl paint party at Tin Whistle Brewing on Oct. 15 and a pretzel-making class at Slackwater Brewing on Oct. 19.

In 2022, with visitors from other communities attending various events, more than $3,300 was raised for charity.

“As an industry, we continue to receive considerable attention, recognition and excitement around our craft beerdestination,” Lawton said.

“Wherever you are in B.C., you’ll have an opportunity to have a taste of Penticton.”
