A round of a-paws at the annual Kelowna Kennel Club Dog Show

Dogs of all shapes and sizes competed over the May long weekend

Dog lovers gathered in Kelowna over the May long weekend for the annual Kelowna Kennel Club Dog Show.

After a few years off, show superintendent Mike Williamson was glad to be back.

Over 1,400 dogs were said to have competed.

“It’s been going up. It steadily goes up at a slow rate,” Williamson said about the show’s growth over the years. He noted people travelled from all across Canada and many drove up from the U.S. to enter the competition.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes could be seen strutting their stuff.

“We have incorporated limited breed shows. What we have, they are specialized for certain breeds. We have a herding specialty, a working specialty, and sporting.”

One day of the competition even included a UK theme, meaning only breeds from the United Kingdom were eligible to enter.

The show was hosted May 19-22 at the Parkinson Rec sports fields.
