The Lake Country Film Committee has started offering movies at the Creekside Theatre for 2019.
The new film group is a committee of the Lake Country Arts Council. They would like to bring more film festival variety of pop culture and documentary films to audiences in Lake Country. The aim is to schedule movies on the second Tuesday of each month through the winter, spring and fall.
Shut Up and Say Something was shown to movie-goers on a snowy Tuesday, Jan. 8 and Bohemian Rhapsody sold out on Saturday, Feb. 2. The next feature films to be aired continue with the regular second Tuesday of the month schedule beginning with Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool on Feb. 12; Toad People: A Story about Hope on March 13; Lost City of Z on April 9; and Us and Them on May 14.
A special guest for the March 13 event will be Mike McKinlay, cinematographer and co-director for Toad People. Watch a trailer video here and read an article about a recent award the filmmaker won for this production. The May 14 screening of Us and Them – a deeply visceral film about transformation through human connection – is provided in collaboration with the Lake Country Health Planning Society. There is an opening reception for the May 14 event from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the theme: Revealing the Truth; Education and Awareness around the Opioid Crisis. This dynamic community engagement will challenge your thoughts, ideas and preconceptions regarding the opioid crisis and who is affected. The event concludes with a Q&A Discussion Panel: An opportunity to keep the conversation going 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
“Anyone can get in on the annual $20 Film Committee membership – which lets you attend each movie screening at no charge through the year,” said Rob Guenette, film committee chair.
“The annual membership is a great deal for any film buffs or anyone looking for an inexpensive evening of entertainment. And partnering with Kelowna Tickets to offer online tickets and seat selection has made it even easier for people to purchase individual movie tickets in advance and reserve their favourite place to sit in the theatre.”
Purchase the Film Committee 2019 membership for $20 cash at the door of the next movie showing and receive a code to use when booking tickets online to reserve a seat for future shows during the year. Everyone is welcome.
