After 10 years, a downtown coffee shop closing its doors.

Bliss Bakery, located at the corner of Ellis Street and Cawston Avenue, is shutting its doors in the near future.

The coffee shop states economic pressures like inflation and ongoing wage increases are a factor in shutting the doors, along with the challenging environment in the area including on-street, in-public and even in-store drug use.

“Our team members have had to deal with situations that are simply unacceptable, including indecent acts, property damages, and aggressive behaviour,” said co-owner Darci Yeo. “We worry that someone will get hurt in such circumstances.”

The exact closing date hasn’t been announced yet.

This was not an easy decision to make,” said statement continues. “Bliss Bakery would like to thank the community for their love and support over the years and hopes to continue sharing ‘Moments of Bliss’ with its loyal customers for years to come.”

Bliss Bakery is asking customers to share their favourite moments and experiences at the establishment on its website.

The Peachland and West Kelowna stores will remain open.
