A large residential/commercial development has been proposed for the Black Mountain neighbourhood.

It covers five acres and three lots at 2040 Joe Riche Road, 1655 Gallagher Rd. and 2021 Highway 33.

Documents submitted to the city by Urban Design Group on behalf of the developer show the project will be done in three phases.

It includes 148 residential units and commercial/retail space including an “internationally acclaimed burger restaurant.”

A convenience store and gas bar, car wash and 14,400 square-foot multi-tenant building are also part of the development.

“The proposed form of development takes into consideration the current market conditions and responds to a severe lack of market supply of residential and neighborhood commercial space in the area,” the documents state.

The heritage Black Mountain School, currently operating as a liquor store, sits on the site and will be incorporated into the development.
