The Ellison Fire Department hosts a sizzling open house in June.

Explore a fire truck and learn skills to prepare for emergencies with information booths hosted by BC Ambulance, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, and the RCMP.

Firefighters will grill smokies for lunch. The free family event is on June 1 from 10 am. to 3 p.m., with pony rides available from 10 a.m. to Noon.

The Ellison Fire Department, established in 1979, has 23 staff members who protect over 2,700 residents.

The department is looking to expand its team of paid-on-call volunteers. Applications open in mid-September.
