Update: One person dead in Highway 97 crash near Peachland

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. on May 9, 2024

Update: May 10, 10:30 am.

West Kelowna RCMP are investigating a crash in the 1600 block of Highway 97 near Peachland (Brent Road) on May 9.

Police and the BC Coroner confirm that the collision resulted in one fatality.

Details of the individual’s personal information will not be released at this time.

RCMP has extended condolences to the deceased’s family.

Update: 6 p.m.

Highway 97, is now open after a closure that snarled traffc for nearly five hours on May 9.

Update: 3:15 p.m.

Highway 97 remains closed in both directions south of Peachland.

Traffic heading south is backed up along the highway through Peachland, while northbound traffic on the other side of the crash (Brent Road) is backed up to Okanagan. Lake Provincial Park.

DriveBC advises that a detour is available via the 201 Forest Service Road.

Highway 97 is closed in both directions following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 97 just south of Peachland.

It happened near Brent Road just before 1 p.m. on Thursday (May 8).

Only a few details are available but it has been confirmed that at least one person was initially trapped in the vehicle.

Traffic is backed up southbound past Princeton Avenue in Peachland. Northbound traffic is backed up past Okanagan Lake Provincial Park South.

One frustrated driver posted this message to X.

Kelowna RCMP Corp. Michael Gauthier said the highway will reopen as soon as the scene is processed and motorists can expect lengthy delays.
