Japanese student studying in Kelowna found dead in Vancouver

A missing UBC Okanagan student has been found dead in Vancouver.

Japanese exchange Mia Saito, was declared missing on Jan. 9 after taking a flight from Kelowna to Vancouver on Jan. 7.

On Friday, Jan. 26, the Vancouver Police Department (VPD) confirmed to Black Press Media that Saito was found dead and stated her death doesn’t appear to be part of a crime. It wasn’t confirmed when Saito died but according to a social media post, Saito died on Jan. 12 at the latest.

“She passed away due to an unexpected incident,” said the social media post. “Unfortunately, I’m unable to provide any specific details regarding the incident.”

Black Press Media has also reached out to the Kelowna RCMP for additional comment.
