Mounties set up in two locations around Kelowna handed out 58 violation tickets on March 15.

The specific enforcement was conducted as part of ICBC’s Distracted Driving Awareness Month.

Officers were placed in the 2100 block of Enterprise Way and Richter Street at Raymer Road in a school zone area during the day.

Of the 58 violations, 44 of them were for the use of electronic devices while driving, 12 of those specifically in a school zone. There were also 12 violations for speeding in a school zone and several no-seat belt violations.

“It’s almost bittersweet because I’m proud my team is catching these drivers and making our roads safer, yet this number of offenders especially in a school zone is simply unacceptable to everyone,” said Sgt. Colby Attlesey with Kelowna Municipal Traffic Services.
