A national organization, KAIROS, will be coming to the Okanagan for a speaking tour on empowering impacts of peace building.

KAIROS will be in Vernon on Thursday, Oct. 5, then Kelowna on Friday, Oct. 6 for the Climate, Conflict, Gender: KAIROS Canada’s Women of Courage Visit 2023.

The visits are a part of KAIROS Canada’s women of courage program, a six-year program funded by the government of Canada and Canadian donors.

A public event will be co-sponsored by KAIROS Vernon and the Vernon Branch of the Okanagan Regional Library on Oct. 5 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the library.

“In light of our own family struggles especially with our wildfires,” said Susan Ghattas, a KAIROS Vernon steering committee member. “Commonly exploring hope for all children facing a future of climate destabilization and consequent economic, environmental and human displacement, we are fortunate to host two women of courage who wish to share with us their own struggles. Come with curiosity, leave inspired.”

Laura Serrano, from the Popular Women’s Organization in Colombia and Hana Kare, member of the Palestinian Conflict Transformation Centre will be the two speakers at the events.

KAIROS is a social justice organization that includes ten Canadian churches and religious organizations.
