Update 11:30 a.m.

Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) is training on Okanagan Lake today.

The volunteer team searched a possible location in Kelowna on Jan. 3 in search of missing 38-year-old Ryan Tomlinson. Although the team isn’t actively searching for the missing man today (Jan. 4), they will be keeping an eye on the shoreline while conducting boat training off the shores of Knox Mountain.

COSAR lead Brad Trites told Black Press they are on hold until the RCMP receives new information.

A Kelowna man who was last seen Dec. 6, has now become the focus for volunteers of Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR).

On Dec. 20, RCMP issued a press release asking for the public’s assistance in finding Ryan Tomlinson after he had not been in contact with their friends and family for a concerning amount of time, which was out of character for him.

Tomlinson, a 38-year-old, experiencing homelessness was known to spend his days in the Lower Mission area near Pandosy Street and KLO Road.

Friends and family of Tomlinson are concerned for his well-being, which led to COSAR searching Knox Mountain Park and the surrounding area for the man on Jan.3.

According to COSAR, ground teams and the certified SAR canine team searched as many “high-probability areas as possible.”

“It is difficult to search for someone who is missing when there isn’t a last known point, however, we’re still optimistic,” said COSAR president Brad Trites.

COSAR’s boat team will be out on Jan.4, to search Okanagan Lake.

If you see Tomlinson, call Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300 and reference file #2023-73456.
