‘Tis the ski-son to be jolly, now the days of refreshing Big White’s home page and wishing for more snow are officially over. Kelowna’s local ski resort is opening for the season.
After weeks of weather-related delays, Big White Ski Resort will be running three lifts for stoked skiers and riders beginning on Dec. 8.
The Bullet Express, Ridge Rocket Express and Plaza Quad Chairs will be taking people up the mountain for the first laps of the 2023/24 season from 8:45 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
“Mother Nature has graced us with over 20 centimetres of fresh Okanagan powder in the past 24 hours, and now we’re ready to safely open a selection of our green and blue runs,” Big White said in a post on Instagram.
The resort is asking that people stick to the open runs only as the early season conditions are constantly evolving and can be unpredictable.
Big White currently has an alpine snow base of 67 cm and additional snowfall is expected overnight Thursday.
To make up for the delayed start, the ski resort will be extending its season and will stay open until Sunday, April 14.
