Tap to pay for BC Transit to start rolling into Okanagan

Information sessions planned for several communities

BC Transit’s new electronic fare payment system, Umo (YOU-mo) will launch in a few weeks throughout the Okanagan.

Umo includes contactless payment methods and new fare products, giving riders the choice of using an app or reloadable card as their payment method.

BC Transit is hosting in-person information sessions in several communities before the launch of Umo:

South Okanagan-Similkameen

  • Penticton - Tues., Feb. 27, 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Penticton Public Library, 785 Main Street and Thu., Feb. 29, 9 to 11 a.m., The Centre, 2965 South Main Street;
  • Oliver - Wed. Feb. 28, 12 to 2 p.m., Oliver Library, 5955 Main Street;
  • Osoyoos - Wed. Feb 28, 3 to 5 p.m., Osoyoos Library, 8505 68th Avenue;
  • Summerland - Thu., Feb. 29, 2:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m., Summerland Aquatic and Fitness Centre 13205 Kelly Avenue.

Kelowna Regional Transit System

  • Lake Country - Tue., Feb. 27, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Lake Country Seniors Activity Centre, 9830-B Bottom Wood Lake Road;
  • Kelowna - Tue., Feb. 27, 3 to 5 p.m., Kelowna Downtown Library, 1380 Ellis Street, Thu., Feb, 29 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Okanagan College Centre for Learning Building Atrium, 1000 K.L.O., and Thu. Feb. 29, 2 to 4 p.m., MNP Place, 4105 Gordon Drive, and Fri., Mar. 1, 1 to 3 p.m., Orchard Park Shopping Centre (near Roots and Peoples Jewellers) 2271 Harvey Avenue;
  • Peachland - Wed., Feb. 28, 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Peachland Community Centre, 4450 6 Street.

Vernon Regional Transit System

  • Vernon - Wed., Feb. 28, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Vernon Recreation Centre, 3310 37th Avenue, and Wed., Feb. 28, 2 to 4:00 p.m., Village Green Shopping Centre, 4900 27 Street, and Thu., Feb. 29, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Vernon Library, 2800 30th Avenue.

Umo will be rolled out in Vernon first followed by Kelowna and the South Okanagan-Similkameen.

It is currently live in 14 transit systems across the province and more information about the program is available on the BC Transit website.
