A Kelowna resident is on their way to the BC Sports Hall of Fame.

Richard ‘Dick’ Zokol is one of five athletes that will be inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 2024.

Now 65 years old, Zokol is one of the most successful Canadian golfers, as he made more than $2 million throughout the course of a 22-year career from 1982-2003. Throughout that time, he competed in 412 PGA Tour events and 53 Buy.com/Nationwide Tour (now known as the Korn Ferry Tour) events. He won one event on each tour - the 1992 Greater Milwaukee Open (PGA) and the 2001 Samsung Canadian PGA Championship (Buy.com).

During his career, he was also able to represent his country for Canada’s World Cup Teams (1992-93) and Dunhill Cup Teams (1985-87, 1992-93).

Over the years, he’s also helped develop several courses around the Okanagan including Vernon’s Predator Ridge and Sagebrush Golf and Sporting Club in Quilchena (Merritt).

Zokol is being inducted with fellow athletes Justin Morneau (baseball), Amanda Asay (baseball), Ryan Cochrane (swimming), and Cassie Sharpe (freestyle skiing).

“After months of anticipation, we’re energized to begin telling the stories and marking the outstanding achievements of our Class of 2024,” said Tom Mayenknecht, Chair of the BC Sports Hall of Fame. “Honouring the past – and inspiring the future – is at the very heart of the mission of the BC Sports Hall of Fame and this year’s honourees truly exemplify the best of sport in this province and beyond. On behalf of our Board of Trustees, Selection Committee chaired by Stan Wong and management team led by Chief Executive Officer Michelle Kitchen, we congratulate our deserving inductees and look forward to coming together again in person to fully honour the Class of 2024 at our BC Sports Hall of Fame Induction Gala next year.”

The class of 2024 will be inducted during a gala in May 2024.
