After two dominating performances on the court this weekend, University of British Columbia Okanagan (UBCO) Heat basketball player Jaeli Ibbetson has been named Canada West women’s basketball player of the week.

The fifth-year athlete helped lead the Heat to back-to-back wins against the UNBC Timberwolves last weekend, winning 82-55 last Friday night (Dec. 1) and 82-46 on Saturday.

With the two wins, the Heat are back to even on the year with a 4-4 record.

On Friday night, Kelowna’s Ibbetson finished with 18 points, 20 rebounds and seven assists.

The next night, she backed up the previous performance with 22 points, 15 rebounds and three assists.

Ibbetson leads Canada West women’s basketball in rebounds, averaging 13 per game, and is fourth in points, with 16.5 per game.

She is the fourth Heat athlete to earn a conference honour this season, joining women’s volleyball player Amaya Perry, along with golfers Justin Towill and Khushi Hooda.

The UBCO Heat women’s team is now off until the new year when they’re in Victoria to take on the University of Victoria Vikes on Jan. 5 and 6.
