Sometimes the best getaways are those closest to home – a new setting that takes us out of the bustle of our own city to discover a new, favourite destination, restaurant or activity, just a short drive away.

If you haven’t visited Osoyoos lately, or experienced it during the beauty of winter, come explore!

A winter sports getaway

At only 45 minutes from downtown Osoyoos, Baldy Mountain ski resort stands tall as a sport haven for winter sport aficionados.

“Osoyoos is perfect for winter sport enthusiasts, whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned pro,” says Kelley Glazer, Executive Director of Destination Osoyoos.

The resort’s accessible hills, retro feel and short line-ups make it a unique and affordable skiing destination. “It’s about the experience of hills accessible to everyone, without the hassle of long lines,” Glazer adds.

Beyond skiing, visitors can also enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country and the new tube park.

“It’s a destination that appeals to the young and the young at heart.”

This winter, enjoy a weekly stay for just $300, offering the best accommodations in the area with multi-room suites and kitchens, ideal for long-term stays.

An entertainment hub

Osoyoos transforms into a vibrant entertainment hub during the winter months, from intimate restaurant performances to jazz at the local theatre. It’s also the place for foodies and wine lovers. Wine & food pairings and wine tours laden the activity possibilities.

“Our event calendar is packed with activities for people of all ages, including wine and culinary events,” Glazer notes. Take advantage of special packages for these events, so you can stay and play!

On a cultural front, the Nk’Mip cultural centre offers tours, as well as inside and outside cultural and nature exhibits.

A vacation to relax

Osoyoos is also the perfect destination for people wanting to relax away from home. Between entertainment, winter sports, calming spas and walks around the peaceful lake.

For those seeking a more tranquil winter getaway, Osoyoos offers a slower pace with 70 per cent of the wineries still open. “Winter is a quieter time, allowing visitors to experience wine country in peace,” Glazer says.

The must-do activity that combines all three needs is The District Wine Village, featuring 11 artisan wine producers, as well as a brewery, a distillery and a restaurant. New this year is a free outdoor skating rink!
