UPDATED: Tony Clement out of Conservative caucus after more allegations arise

Party leader initially said Clement could stay, despite admission he’d sent sexually explicit photos

Andrew Scheer says he has asked Tony Clement to leave the Conservative caucus after more allegations of sexual impropriety were brought to his attention.

The departure comes the day after Clement stepped down from his role as justice critic after admitting he sent sexually explicit images and a video to someone he thought was a consenting woman.

Scheer says Clement told him this was an isolated incident but reports have since come to him that that isn’t true.

Clement has been a Conservative MP since 2006, and was a cabinet minister for nearly a decade.

He says after he sent the images and video, the receipient demanded money from Clement in an extortion attempt.

The RCMP and the security arm of the Privy Council Office are investigating to see if any national security was breached because Clement had top-secret clearance in his role on a committee of parliamentarians overseeing national security and intelligence.
