Change is on the horizon for a problematic Kelowna intersection.
According to a post on Facebook, some rules are being put in place for the intersection of Highway 97 and Old Vernon Road. Drivers on Old Vernon Road will not be able to turn left at peak hours, when the intersection is at its busiest. The sign states drivers can’t turn left from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
It’s unknown if the new traffic patterns apply to seven days a week or just apply to weekdays.
The intersection has become an issue over the years as numerous car crashes have occurred there, which have resulted in deaths. According to ICBC, 129 crashes have happened at this intersection, from 2017 to 2021, including 51 that have resulted in injures or death.
Capital News has reached out to the City of Kelowna for comment.
