Kelowna heritage home a ‘complete loss’ after early morning blaze, deemed suspicious

This is the second time in eight months the home was set ablaze

A heritage home in Kelowna went up in flames for the second time in less than a year early Saturday morning (June 17).

The Jennens House, located at 1978 McDougall Street in Kelowna’s Lakeshore neighbourhood, is a “complete loss” according to the Kelowna Fire Department following Saturday morning’s blaze.

Around 3:30 a.m., the fire department received calls about a fire in the area of Pandosy Street and Lake Avenue. When crews arrived at the scene, they found a fully engulfed structure fire in the 1900 block of McDougall Road. The home already had significant damage before the fire department got to the area.

The crews were able to protect the residences on both sides of the house and used multiple muster streams to tackle the blaze.

No one was injured and the residence was unoccupied.

This fire is deemed as suspicious and the fire department is continuing their investigation.

The Jennens House was found ablaze in October 2022.

On top of the 26 fire fighters that attended the scene, the RCMP, emergency services, FortisBC, the City of Kelowna, the Salvation Army, and City Roadways also assisted with the blaze.

The fire department is continuing to extinguish the fire and complete their investigation and ask the public to stay away from the area. An axcavator is also currently on site.
