Man cuffed for exposing himself

RCMP responded to a report of a man who had allegedly exposed himself to others at the Johnson Bentley Aquatic Centre

West Kelowna Mounties who arrested a man for an alleged indecent act, are encouraging other witnesses to come forward to police.

On Feb. 25 at 7:20 p.m., West Kelowna RCMP responded to a report of a man who had allegedly inappropriately exposed himself to others in the family change room of the Johnson Bentley Aquatic Centre in West Kelowna.

Police responded to the facility and located the suspect who was still inside a change stall.

According to police, the 34-year-old Kelowna man, who refused to identify himself to police at the scene, was taken into custody without incident.

“RCMP are taking this reported incident very seriously,” states Staff Sgt. Lesli Roseberry, commander of the West Kelowna RCMP Detachment.

“We’re pleased that staff of the facility were quick to call the police, which allowed our officers to make an arrest before others could be further victimized.”

The man was later positively identified by investigators who obtained his fingerprints for analysis.

He faces potential charges and was held in police custody over the weekend.

“We suspect that there may be other members of the public who were at the pool, who may have witnessed this man’s behaviour prior to or after the alleged incident, or may have been victimized themselves,” adds Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“We’d like to encourage those witnesses to come forward to speak to our investigators.”

If you witnessed this incident and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to contact the West Kelowna RCMP at 250-768-2880.
