Approximately 30 new daycare spaces may soon be available in Rutland.

City council has given initial consideration to allow rezoning for a property at 875 Hollydell Road for a childcare centre in an existing building.

“If this moves forward it’s definitely good because of where it’s located and 28 additional daycare spaces close to a park, it’s a great spot within our community,” said Kelowna Mayor Tom Dyas.

Coun. Mohini Singh echoed the comment.

“It’s a service we desperately need in our city.”

Hours of operation for the facility would be 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Staff recommends support for the proposal. It would still need to pass reading consideration and final reading before being approved by council.
