Fire crews responded to a forest fire in Peachland Friday afternoon.

A fire  burning near Ponderosa golf course appears to be largely under control.

BC Wildfire Service crews spent Friday night with the  fire, which at its height grew to two hectares.

District firefighters were first on site, but they were sent home by BC Wildfire who took 100 per cent control of the blaze at around 6 p.m. Friday night.

"They had a good connection to water, with hydrants reaching all the way to the fire," said Dennis Craig, Peachland fire chief.

Water bombers and retardant planes were also above Peachland for hours last night.

Craig added that the fire was never a threat to homes, as it was a solid kilometre into the bush.

BC Wildfire Service supplied 24 crew members, along with a helicopter and two tankers to the source.
