An older model pickup truck, allegedly stolen out of the Vernon area, was recovered just hours later Wednesday afternoon in Kelowna by Mounties who put a suspect behind bars.

On Jan. 25 just before 3 p.m., plain clothes operators, with the Kelowna RCMP Street Enforcement Unit (SEU), were actively patrolling when they spotted a mid-nineties white Ford pick-up truck parked in the vicinity of a residence identified by police as a problem residence.

Officers determined the Ford had been reported earlier in the day to the Vernon RCMP as stolen, taken sometime overnight, after its owner found broken glass in a hotel parking lot where the truck was last parked.

RCMP officers took a man and a woman into police custody when the vehicle pulled into and stopped at a gas station at the intersection of Highway 33 East and Dougall Road in Rutland.

Darcy William Every, 35, of the Shuswap area, was held in police custody overnight and appeared in Court earlier today. He now faces the following charges of possession of stolen property, theft of a motor vehicle, breach of a Probation Order and possession of a controlled substance. He has since been remanded into custody and is expected to appear in court on Feb. 2.

A 30-year-old Kamloops woman, was later released and is expected to appear in court on a later date facing a potential charge.

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey would like to assure the general public, “that both uniformed and plain clothes officers of the Kelowna RCMP continually monitor both residential and commercial properties within the community which are the source of increased calls for police service.”

“Members of the community can expect to see increased patrols, police presence and often enforcement in the area surrounding such locations,” he said.
