A supposedly stolen motorbike turned out to be a case of mistaken identity.
On April 8, Salmon Arm RCMP received a report that a man had dropped his motorbike off for repairs at a place on Mobley Road several months prior, but the mechanic subsequently died and the bike had disappeared.
“The complainant was reporting that his motorcycle was now parked at a neighbour’s house,” Const. Andrew Hodges said in an April 20 media release. “He was 100 per cent certain it was his motorcycle, and he ‘would take care of it himself’ if police didn’t retrieve the motorcycle for him.”
After getting the VIN of the complainants’ bike, officers attended the scene and found the neighbour’s was the same make and model, but a year older and with a completely different VIN. The neighbour also showed his transfer and vehicle registration papers.
“Although still adamant it was his motorcycle, the complainant was advised that the motorcycle was not his, and to leave the neighbours alone,” Hodges added.
