UPDATE 3 p.m.:

Peachland residents are being warned to expect traffic delay and service disruptions due to a mudslide early Friday afternoon.

“Due to a slide and sewer main break on Renfrew Road, Highway 97 south of Renfrew and north of Hardy Street is single-lane alternating traffic at the moment,” wrote the District of Peachland.

“Renfrew is closed between Renfrew Court and Sherburn Road. Please stay away from that area of town.”

The district is telling residents who access their home via Sherburn that your only access is Hardy and the one-way section of Renfrew Rd.

Traffic is backed up north and south of Peachland after a mudslide early this afternoon closed one lane.

Highway 97 is single-lane alternating 3.5 kilometres south of Peachland after a steep bank between Renfrew Road and the highway gave way.

Photos from the scene and above the scene show mud, rocks and trees broke off and littered the highway below.

Crews were forced to close the lane southbound to clean up the mess. There is no current time of opening as crews rushed to secure the bank.
