May 30, 1935 - July 28, 2021
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer on July 28, 2021 at Hospice House in Kelowna, B.C.
David was born in North Vancouver on May 30, 1935 to Charles and Eliza Mussell, born fourth of five children.
He started his career as a delivery man for pharmaceuticals and went on to work at the Esso station on Lonsdale as a mechanic.
On December 16, 1961, he married the love of his life. They settled in Vancouver and had four children. Eventually moving to Kelowna B.C. in 1970 where he started his own construction company and built many of the homes now located in Glenrosa, West Kelowna.
Unfortunately, the construction business did not prosper and he went on to work at Campion Boats, Aquastar Boats and Cooper Yachts until his retirement.
David was a member of the Westbank Lions Club, as well as, a volunteer firefighter with the Lakeview Heights Fire Department for many years. He also enjoyed the time he spent with family and friends. He was actively involved with the Cub Scouts, minor league baseball and hockey and spent many days taking his son to all of them. Later, he enjoyed bowling and golfing and sharing a friendly competition with his son during the many games they played together.
After retirement, he spent quiet years with Marie in their home in Rutland, where he enjoyed the get togethers with family and friends, working in his yard and doing odd jobs to keep busy.
He was predeceased by his loving parents, his great-granddaughter Alexandria and great-grandson Adam.
He is survived and will be missed by his wife of 60 years, Marie, son Michael (Angie), daughters, Catherine (Abel), Tamara (Chris), Diane (Bruce), 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, (with 2 more on the way), his sisters, Edith, Elsie, Dorothy and brother Chuck.
The family would like to thank Dr. Adam Burnett, the Palliative Team in Rutland and the staff of Hospice House for the wonderful care they provided to our loved one during his illness.
There will be a Celebration of Life on August 7, 2021 from 1-5 at the family home at 657 Hardie Court in Rutland. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Hospice House in Kelowna or the Cancer Society of B.C. would be greatly appreciated.
