Unbeaten Cougars sweep WHL doubleheader in PG, beat Rockets three times in four nights

James Wishnowski and the Kelowna Rockets fell 3-0 to the Cougars Saturday in Prince George.

The Kelowna Rockets simply didn't have an answer for the Prince George Cougars.

On Saturday night, the Cougars defeated the Rockets for the third straight time—in a four-day span—with a 3-0 shutout at the CN Centre in P.G.

The Cougars (6-0-0) remain undefeated this season, while the Rockets slip to 1-4-0.

The Rockets gave starting goaltender Michael Herringer the night off after recording 40 saves ina 4-1 loss on Friday night in P.G, and 31 saves in the Rockets' 2-1 loss to the Cougars on Wednesday in Kelowna.

Brodan Salmond made his first start of the regular season and made 28 saves.

After a scoreless first period, the Rockets controlled much of the middle frame doubling up the Cougars 12-6 in shots but Cougars goaltender Nick McBride was steady.

The Cougars made a late push in the frame and broke the tie Aaron Boyd put home his first of the regular season with just under three minutes to go.

Max Martin scored on a point shot on the powerplay to put the Cougars up 2-0 just under five minutes into the third period.

With just under four minutes to go current league leader Jared Bethune scored his fifth goal and 10th point of the season to put a pin in the Cougars sixth straight win.

The Rockets head to Alberta to face the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday for the first of three stops in the province before returning home to face the Saskatoon Blades on Friday, Oct. 14.
