The hometown Vancouver Giants defeated the winless Kelowna Rockets 4-1 Friday night in WHL action, scoring three power play goals and shutting down Kelowna’s power play in the process.
The Rockets (0-4) were 0-for-9 with the man advantage while Vancouver was 3-for-6.
Colton Sissons scored the Rockets goal at 10:33 of the first period. GVancouver’s first-period goals came from Marek Tvrdon and Matt MacKay.
The Rockets came out strong in the second, outshooting Vancouver 11-5 in the first eight minutes. The Rockets failed to convert on back to back power play chances however before Vancouver took a 3-1 lead on a power play goal by Brendan Gallagher.
In the third period Randy McNaught put the game out of reach with Vancouver’s fourth goal. Shots on goal were 35-31 in favour of Vancouver.
Kelowna plays Prince Albert at home Saturday.
